On the RAVeL route in Pays des Collines – L87

An old railway line with stunning landscapes!

Established along the old L83-87 railway line, the Collines RAVeL (green way) runs between Ellezelles and Flobecq, crossing the Pays des Collines nature reserve.  It follows the Eurovelo 5 cycle route (the European cycle trail from London to Brindisi in Italy, a 3,900-km ride) and eventually connects Escaut, to the west of Mont-de-l'Enclus, and Dendre, to the east of Lessines.

A green way for walkers, cyclists and riders

The Collines RAVeL was designed for the enjoyment of all wanderers, whether on foot, bicycle or horseback. The cycle path is also for hikers and riders - on soft ground - and invites wanderers to ramble through leafy pastoral countryside. Here, you will find superb views over the Pays des Collines. Picnic areas and easy access to the Brasserie des Légendes, the Maison de Plantes Médicinales (House of Medicinal Plants) or the House of the Pays des Collines provide gourmet stops and watering holes along the way.

A perfect tour for family outings

Inaccessible to motor vehicles, the green way is completely safe for children. Families can park close to the Brasserie des Légendes and join the RAVeL to let their little ones pedal in complete safety. Two picnic areas, Beaufaux and Quintine, are in close reach of the RAVeL. Equipped with small innovative playgrounds, they provide fun for all the family.  After the outing, the play area at the Brasserie des Légendes is always a good place to stop off for the children, while their parents savour the local lager.

For those who make it all the way to Flobecq, take a look at the Maison des Plantes médicinales. Here Anne invites you to visit her garden and an educational exhibition on herbs with cartoons for the children. A long terrace allows you to relax in peace and quiet and enjoy some refreshment from the restaurant next door, "Au cœur du jardin" (In the Heart of the Garden).

In Lahamaide, visit the Eco-museum. Here you can learn about rural life and working on the land. If you're here on a Sunday or public holiday, you can take advantage of the open tavern to enjoy a glass of "La Hamaide" beer.

Animal and plant conservation

Keep your eyes wide open. Different bird species fly above your head: buzzards, sparrow-hawks, kestrels... In the fields and undergrowth, little rodents run for cover.  As to the landscape, panoramas of hills, plains and valleys roll past.  In the forests, oaks, beech trees and pollarded willows are the true emblems of the nature reserve.
