Walking and cycling events (spring-summer 2020)

Every year, as soon as spring returns, and throughout the summer, walks and cycle rides take place in every corner of Picardy Wallonia. Sometimes festive, even completely bizarre, sometimes educational or gourmet ... There’s no lack of options to get out and about!

 

Nordic walking – Silly, January to December 2020 (on foot)

On the 1st Sunday of the month, the Silly Tourist Board organises two walks, one 5km and the other 10km, giving old hands and beginners alike the opportunity to have a go at Nordic walking. Leaves at 9.30am. Different meeting place every month.

Short routes – Silly, February to December 2020 (on foot)

On the first Wednesday of the month, a relaxed walk of approximately 5km is organised by the Silly Tourist Board. Explore the rural and architectural heritage of the region and the surrounding area. Leaves at 2pm. FREE OF CHARGE.

Daffodils walk– Brunehaut, 15th March 2020 (on foot)

Composed of four different routes (of length 6, 12, 20 and 30 km), starting from Lesdain, the Daffodil Walk promises walkers total escape in the Plaines de l’Escaut Natural Park with a visit to the famous Lesdain nurseries and the neighbouring French villages.

Walk Jean Nature – Ellezelles, 13 April 2020 (on foot)

From the Ecomuseum, this 6km adventure in the heart of the Pays des Collines lets you follow in the footsteps of ancestors and enjoy numerous anecdotes, legends, and memories... but also taste some waffles and the local red beer, "La Hamaide". Departure: 14:30.

The Walking-Stick Walk – Tournai, 13 April 2020 (on foot)

Every year, on Easter Monday, nearly 7,000 walkers arm themselves with a walking cane or stick to climb Mont-Saint-Aubert. At the top, walkers are rewarded with breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside, Tournai and its cathedral, and the Scheldt and its plains. Departure between 7:00 and 17:00 from Kain.

“Les Saveurs de Silly” gourmet walk – Silly, 1st May 2020 (on foot & by bike)

A gourmet walk promoting balanced eating, the authenticity of traditional dishes, beer, wine and the sharing of culinary cultures. A moment to savour the pleasures of the table and the taste, as well as respect our health and well-being! A circuit of about 27km, on foot or horseback, by bike or by car. Cost: €30 per person - reservation required.

The Remarkable Trees Rally – Ellezelles, 7 June 2020 (by bike)

As its name indicates, the "Remarkable Trees Rally" enables you to discover some of the most beautiful trees that grow on our hills. Cyclists, motorists and motorcyclists alike can benefit from this return to nature. Departure from the Pays des Collines Ecomuseum, between 10:00 and 11:00.

Lovers of cycling and the accordion meet up to put on this joint Franco-Walloon-Flemish event. A good-natured ride, with music all the way. And the final destination? A giant picnic at Baisieux.

In the tradition of the cycle rallies of the Plaines de l’Escaut Natural Park, the city of Pommeroeul plays host to a rather unusual rally. Here, bicycles your grandad might have ridden, tricycles, and other bike-like contraptions get wheeled out! FREE ENTRY.

Adrien Joveneau, a Belgian radio presenter and bike lover, is coming in Picardy Wallonia for 2 steps of the Beau Vélo de RAVeL 2020. Besides a family bike ride of +/- 30 km, the bike lovers will enjoy many concerts in the end of the day, what helps for taking a break and enjoying a friendly atmosphere.

In the footsteps of our grandmothers’ remedies- Ellezelles, 5 July 2020 (on foot)

Narrated walks at the park of Enghien castle - Enghien, 15th August 2020 (on foot)

The grounds of the Château d’Enghien play host to a curious walk... As the day draws to a close, strange creatures, storytellers and street performers lead visitors into the Forêt des Secrets for a magical two-and-a-half-hour walk.

“Vélo Saveurs” (Bike and Bite) picnic - Silly, 19 July 2020 (by bike)

This bike ride takes cyclists on a journey to meet the area’s Slow Food producers. Sampling of local produce, and an organised picnic based on products collected during the ride. Cost is €22 for the meal, with a drink included. Departure: 10:30
