The House of Medicinal Plants
Since the 16th century Flobecq has been renowned for the cultivation of medicinal herbs. The famous herbalist Pierre Ricard even established a herb garden and shop in the Pays des Collines. Nowadays, the Maison des Plantes médicinales (medicinal herbs museum) honours this rich heritage through an exhibition that recounts the history of herbal medicine from antiquity to the present day. 80 medicinal plant species are grown in the garden (ask for the visitor's guide).
The Maison des plantes médicinales is more than an exhibition centre and a garden: it is also a tourist information centre for the region, a shop specialised in herbal products (tasting of garden angelica), a bar and a restaurant with terrace! In "Histoire des Mets" Sylvie prepares refined dishes using herbs and essential oils. Also discover the sculptures by Jean-François Massart along the medicinal herbs and art tour (4.5 km starting at Place de Flobecq) as well as two other herb gardens nearby: the Jardin de la Grange in Ellezelles and the garden of Hôpital Notre-Dame à la Rose in Lessines.
ACTIVITIES: Collines enchantées (fairy festival) (1 May).
