Idea for an Ascension-day weekend stay (in May)—two days/one night

A family weekend at the “Sortilèges, Rue et Vous” Festival in Ath

Every Ascension-Day Thursday, the same thing happens: artists of all types invade the streets of Ath as part of the "Sortilèges, Rue et Vous" Festival! A must-see moment in the calendar for lovers of crazy, zany spectacles, circus, music and street arts. It’s an ideal occasion to come and spend time in Picardy Wallonia, and to tie it in with a visit to the Village des Sorcières in the Pays des Collines. That’s what we’d call having a fantastic weekend in prospect!

Day 1 - Ascension Thursday

Discovering Ath, the City of Giants, during the "Sortilèges, Rue et Vous" Festival is already fantastic in itself. Every corner of the city comes alive, and the free shows flow, one after another, all day long. We recommend you taste a local beer in one of the many cafés on the Grand Place while enjoying the festivities! There are plenty of options for a light meal. "La Trattoria", for example, offers pasta in all forms, as well as a children's menu. If you are looking for a bit of peace and quiet at the end of the day, head for the outskirts of the city and the "Le Bois du Renard" tavern. Your children can continue to let off steam in the garden playground while you keep an eye on them from the terrace. Then, set off for the "Au Mont des Collines" chambre d’hôtes, in Ellezelles, for a well-deserved rest.

Day 2 : Friday

The next day, take a morning to relax in the mysterious hills of the Natural Park. Discover the Village des Sorcières (the village of witches) and its renowned brewery: the Brasserie des Légendes. Here, you can taste Quintine, a brew named after the famous witch, unless, that is, you prefer the Hercule, named after an illustrious figure apparently born in the locality! After having tasted one of the beer-based dishes at the Chaudron des Légendes, the tavern that adjoins the brewery, point yourself in the direction of the Maison du Pays des Collines. It offers an interactive circuit covering the traditions, tales and legends of the region.

Why not take up this idea of a break to stay on some other key dates too, and experience even more events to fire the imagination in Picardy Wallonia!
